This is a German ceramic beer stein by Gerz, with a pewter lid, featuring two paintings by award-winning wildlife artist Linda Picken. On one side, "Winter Music" — a Black Lab in the snow with Canadian Geese flying overhead. On the other, a Black Lab portrait, the dog resting in dry cattails as mallards take flight above. Both scenes are bordered by oak leaves and acorns, pine needles and pine cones.
The pewter lid (97% Zinn) carries the same design language — an acorn and pine cone motif with an acorn leaf as the lifting mechanism. The acorn leaf cascades down the handle. Every detail considered, nothing wasted.
Made in Germany by Gerz in the 1980s, stoneware with pewter lid, in excellent condition. No cracks, chips, or scratches. Pewter in excellent condition as well.
Linda Picken was born in 1944 and is an active artist living in the American Ozarks. She studied at the Des Moines Art Center and majored in art at Drake University. An award-winning wildlife and animal portraiture artist whose work has gained national recognition, she was named an Honorary Trustee of Ducks Unlimited and recipient of its first Silver Palette and Chisel award. Dozens of her paintings have been selected to raise funds for conservation.
